“Meeting someone but not recognizing the meaning. Then later meeting again and being together. Looking back in hindsight, hemming the moments to form the meaning of the now and togetherness. Finding the story within the departing, within the missing, within the remembrance of conversing while thinking of something else. Sometimes it is the sheer void of being apart that slowly catalyzes the nostalgic return. Some things just take a while. Some things accelerate through the empty spaces left behind by someone else.

This is Absence and Time, a collection of the first eight songs Lore City wrote and recorded eight months into their collaboration. Born from weekly walks under the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to a bare-bones studio, the first songs to form were Unknown and Whole Lot. Seeking respite from the exhaustive metropolis, upstate New York beckoned. Two months into a wooded seclusion and despite a broken foot, Lore City began recording in the corner of a converted church. Delivering two or three songs per session, performances were captured on the first or second take and the tracks mixed same day. Just the raw sound as it came out, harrowed and hallowed.” — LMW
